On behalf of the Organizing Committtee and Diabetes Unit of Amiri Hospital Kuwait, I would like to invite you for upcoming 9th AMIRI DIABETES VIRTUAL CONFERENCE to be held at 20-21 May 2022. The Virtual Conference is a comprehensive event with aiming to discuss the most up-to-date scientific discoveries & practices in the field of Medical Science.

This Virtual Conference will bring together international and regional senior medical professionals, distinguished scholars & goverment and private sector medical professionals from the State of Kuwait, the Gulf Co-operation Council region and the Arabian countries who are involved in the field of Diabetes. Dr. Abdullah Al-Ozairi is the Chair of the Psychiatry Residency Program. He is the Head of the Psychiatry Unit in Al Amiri Hospital. He is also an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in Kuwait.

He is double Board Certified in both Canada and the USA in “General Psychiatry” and “Neuropsychiatry and Behavioural Neurology”.

He holds a masters degree in Public Heath and has long been interested in Mental Health Promotion in general, and of healthcare professionals in particular.

Dr. Amin Jayyousi MD, FACE, Doha, Qatar

Dr. Amin Jayyousi is a Senior Consultant for Endocrine and Diabetes at Hamad Medical Cooperation (HMC) Qatar. He is also an Associate Professor at Weill-Cornell Medical College-Qatar & NY.

Dr. Jayyousi obtained his Master Degree in Internal Medicine from the University of Jordan in 1982, after which he joined Hamad Medical Cooperation (HMC), Qatar. He also holds Jordan Board of Internal Medicine since 1983.

Dr. Jayyousi is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE). He has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors AACE-Gulf chapter in 2015 and is the Chairman of the scientific committee of AACE-Gulf chapter. He is also an active member of the American Endocrine Society since 2012 and Vice-Chair of the Diabetes Guidelines committee at HMC, Qatar. He is a founding member of the Qatar Diabetes Association in Qatar as well as a member of Qatar Medical Association, Qatar and Member of Jordanian Medical Council, Jordan.

Dr. Jayyousi is actively involved in diabetes research and has over 50 publications in the field of Diabetes and Thyroid. He has also contributed in many national and international conferences and events as a major speaker and/or moderator. He has been awarded twice with ‘’Stars of Excellence- Hamad Hospital ‘’Award- Rising Star, for both Multidisciplinary Diabetes Education Programme and the establishment of the National Diabetes Center at HMC, Qatar.

Dr. Bassam Bulbanat

Dr. Bassam Bulbanat is currently Consultant of Cardiology (echocardiography specialist) at Sabah Al Ahmad Cardiac Center, MOH, Kuwait. He has pursued his post-graduate training (Internal medicine, Cardiology and echocardiography) in Canada from 1995 to 2002. During his academic career he has contributed to several international journal publications. He is currently posted as the Chief of the Exam Committee of the Kuwaiti Board of the Adult Cardiology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Ebaa-Al-Ozairi

Dr. Ebaa Al Ozairi is the Chief Medical Officer at Dasman Diabetes Institute, a consultant Diabetes, Endocrine and Nutrition and the President of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologist- Gulf Chapter, being first woman president among all Gulf Countries. Dr. Al Ozairi has completed her intercalated BMSc (hons) in molecular pathology at Dundee University (UK) and graduated from Aberdeen University (UK) for her medical undergraduate studies. Ebaa then joined Newcastle University (UK) for her specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology. During her postgraduate studies in UK, Dr Al Ozairi was awarded The Fulbright fellowship to Joslin Diabetes Institute, affiliates of Harvard medical school, Boston, USA. Her research interest includes diabetes education, technology and metabolic surgery.

Dr. Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al Lamki

Dr Mohamed Bin Abdullah Bin Mohamed Al Lamki, received his undergraduate degree from Ain Shams University, Cairo,Egypt.He completed higher school education from King Williams College in the Isle of Man ( United Kingdom.

He joined Ministry of health and work his way to his current position, Having completed PostGraduation in Glasgow, Scotland , as the first Omani Endocrinologist. Pioneered the clinical Exams in Oman ,initially as MRCP and later on PaCEs.(Professional Assessment for Clinical Examination ).

Dr Al Lamki is a Fellow of the Royal College UK, President of AACE-Gulf chapter and in addition to heading the Medical Endometabolic unit at the Royal Hospital , he is also the head of the Subspecialties . He has been instrumental in conceiving and commissioning the first purpose built center for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Oman( National Diabetes and Endocrine Center). Member of the Gulf Group for the Study of Diabetes(GGSD), with affiliation and collaboration with EASD ( European Association for the study of Diabetes)activities. He has a number of publications In peer journals , and is one of the main editorial members for Sultan Qaboos Medical Journal.

He has an active role in teaching both undergraduate and Residents in Oman Medical Speciality Board.Dr Al Lamki has held position as President of AACE Gulf Chapter for the appointed time as per rules and regulations .Currently , he is in the Advisory board member of the Chapter, now rebranded as Gulf Association for Endocrinology & Diabetes(GAED) Other International role: Collaborative work with other chapters in Europe and Asia.Working closely with European Association for the Study of Diabetes , and European Society of Endocrinology. Dr. Hassanein is a senior consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetes at Dubai Hospital, Dubai, UAE since 2014. He holds an Academic post of Senior Lecturer, and Associate Director for Postgraduate Diabetes Education, Cardiff University. UK since 2007and was appointed to the post of Consultant in the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at BCUHB, UK, in 2002. Dr Hassanein graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria, Egypt.

His main research interest is in the field of diabetes and Ramadan. He co-authored recommendations papers on this subject for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in 2005 and 2010, and for the British Medical Journal in 2010 as well as the IDF-DAR practical guidelines, 2016. Dr Hassanein has participated as the first author and/or a co-author in numerous studies in this field. He has published over 70 papers and has presented more than 50 oral presentations at national and international meetings.

Professor Mike Cummings

Professor Mike Cummings was appointed as Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Portsmouth NHS Trust in 1996. He is also Honorary Professor in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Portsmouth University.

His major areas of interest in Diabetes are linked to cardiovascular disease and risks (in particular dyslipidaemia, dysglycaemia and microalbuminuria), diabetes and pregnancy and erectile dysfunction. He also has an interest in pancreatic exocrine insufficiency in diabetes. His endocrine interest links to thyroid lumps, endocrine fertility and hypogonadism.

His research portfolio includes endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, dysglycaemia and lipid metabolism. He lectures widely on diabetes and lipid related topics and has published extensively within these areas. Professor Cummings is also Wessex Lead for Diabetes Research as part of the NIHR.

He is Associate Editor of Practical Diabetes and Sub-Editor of Diabetes Digest.

Dr. Ahmad Al-Hashemi
Assistant Professor at the Dept of Medicine

Dr. Ahmad Alhashemi is an Assistant Professor at the Dept of Medicine, Kuwait University and Senior Specialist in Endocrine & Diabetes at Adan Hospital, and is the Program Director of the Kuwaiti Board of Internal Medicine.

He received his medical degree from Kuwait University. He then completed his postgraduate training at the University of Toronto specializing in Internal Medicine, then subspecializing in Endocrine & Metabolism followed by a Thyroid Clinical Fellowship and a Pituitary Clinical Fellowship. He holds the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada.

He holds a Masters Degree in Community Health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto with a specialization in Health Practitioner Teacher Education. He is a candidate for a Masters in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology.

He has given over 50 medical lectures and talks, has several publications in peer reviewed scientific journals and international scientific conference presentations. He is actively involved in undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical education. He completed a number of technological projects including educational websites and mobile applications for medicine and medical education.

Dr. Saud Al-Sifri

Saud Al Sifri is Clinical Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Al Hada Armed Forces Hospital, Taif, Saudi Arabia. He is also Director of the Diabetes and Endocrine Specialist Centre at the Prince Mansour Hospital, Taif, Saudi Arabia, and Director of the Postgraduate Residency Training Program. Dr Al Sifri received his MD from Dow Medical College and King Saud University, Riyadh, and completed fellowships in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), West Ontario University (London, ON, Canada) and Minnesota University (MN, USA). He was awarded the Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians UK.

Dr. Al Sifri is actively involved in academic activities at the Al Hada Armed Forces Hospital, including postgraduate clinical and theoretical training. His academic commitments range from teaching undergraduate medical students of Umm Al Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to being a member of the Continuous Medical Education Committee of the Makkah Region. Dr Al Sifri’s research interests include diabetes risk factors, including dyslipidemia, with a recent focus on diabetes during Ramadan. He has participated in numerous clinical trials and has authored over 200 publications, including peer-reviewed articles and abstracts.

Dr. Al Sifri is a Member of the Research Promotion Group at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, a Board Member of the Saudi Diabetes Society and the Saudi Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism, and a Founding Member of the Arab Diabetes Forum. He is also a Reviewer for the Journal of Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity, the International Journal of General Medicine, and Research and Reports in Endocrine Disorders. Dr Al Sifri was awarded the Donnell Etzwiler International Award in Diabetes in 2010 for his involvement in diabetes research and received a Certificate of Excellence from the Director of the Armed Forces Hospitals, Taif Region, and a Letter of Appreciation from HRH Governor of Makkah Region for his contribution to health development.

Adeeba Al-Herz is Graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, 1993. She had an American and Canadian Board in internal medicine and Canadian Board in rheumatology. She trained in McGill University, Montreal; Vancouver University, British Columbia and lupus and vasculitis, University of Toronto, Ontario.
